The american massage therapy association (amta) is the largest non-profit, professional association serving massage therapists, massage students and massage schools. Professional members must graduate from a minimum 500 in-class hour entry level massage therapy program, provide proof of current state or provincial licensure (where applicable), or receive certification from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) for admittance into the association. amta members work within their client’s home/business/corporate setting, their own home, spa/salons, massage therapy offices, health care facilities, health clubs/gyms and massage therapy-only franchises. From education to award-winning publications to broad liability insurance, amta membership provides the tools that members need to grow and thrive in the massage therapy profession.
amta’s signature publications keep these professionals on top of news, trends and research in massage therapy and the association. mtj (massage therapy journal ),the association’s quarterly publication, keeps readers in touch with articles to help massage therapists grow professionally and personally. Topics include research, anatomy and physiology, building a business, ethics, techniques, and much more. In addition, amta publishes e-newsletters, which offer a timely way to reach and stay in touch with members and other industry professionals. amta also offers continuing education and networking opportunities through their chapter meetings at the state and local level. amta’s annual national convention, held in a different U.S. region each year, is regularly attended by thousands of massage therapists and over 100 exhibitors.
