Founded in 1963,the National Academy of Opticianry (the Academy) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing and furthering educational opportunities for all opticians. As the largest membership group exclusively for individual opticians, the Academy provides a multitude of benefits including: educational seminars and review courses for national certification and state licensure examinations; a subscription to the bi-monthly Academy Newsletter; discounts on Academy products, and much more.
Academy members are highly educated medical professionals responsible for the manufacture, fitting and sale of contact lenses, eyeglasses and other optical instruments. A majority of members work within retail optical stores, laboratories, and group or private practices. They have the primary purchasing authority for a wide array of optical equipment, supplies and instruments in addition to small business related materials.
