Compiled from government and private sources. Included are hospitals, laboratories, clinics, research facilities, blood banks and drug treatment centers that produce infectious waste -- such as blood products, contaminated needles, cultures and red bag waste.
The Medical Waste Tracking Act passed by Congress in 1988 prompted a host of state and local regulations affecting industries which generate this category of waste. These waste producers now allocate increasing portions of their operating budgets to the proper labeling, packaging, and ultimate disposal of medical waste.
