Formed in 1987, the American Battlefield Trust is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that seeks both to preserve our nation’s hallowed battlegrounds and educate the public on what happened there and why it matters today. The Trust works to permanently protect the significant Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and Civil War battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought there.
The Trust has preserved 50,000 acres of battlefield land in 24 states. Battlefields are also outdoor classrooms, and the Trust believes that history education is the foundation of good citizenship. From outstanding educator resources to an award-winning member magazine, and from cutting-edge digital productions to lively social media channels and world-class events, the Trust is committed to bringing to life the history of America’s turbulent First Century.
These generous members are well-educated men & women with a great passion for history. They enjoy reading, listening to music, and traveling around the country visiting historic sites.
