These generous direct mail generated donors believe in the purpose and need for the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture. The museum opened on September 24th, 2016.
The National Museum of African American History and Culture will be a place where all Americans can learn about the richness and diversity of the African American experience, what it means to their lives and how it helped us shape this nation. A place that transcends the boundaries of race and culture that divide us, and becomes a lens into a story that unites us all. The museum seeks to help all Americans remember, and by remembering, this museum will stimulate a dialogue about race and help to foster a spirit of reconciliation and healing.
The National Museum of African American History and Culture is a place of meaning, of memory, of reflection, of laughter, and of hope. A beacon that reminds us of what we were; what challenges we still face; and point us towards what we can become.
