Turtle Island is dedicated to protecting endangered turtle species from extinction by maintaining assurance colonies, rescuing, nursing them, and encouraging reproduction before safely reintroducing them into their natural habitats.
They educate and consult with people who own and work with turtles worldwide to ensure appropriate and species-related caregiving while calling attention to the importance of environmental protection to raise awareness and protect wildlife. With 240 different turtle species in their care, they are already the most species rich turtle “ark” in the world. Of the 50 most endangered turtle species, they care for 37 and breed 35 of them.
Turtle Island is a worldwide extinction prevention turtle rescue but focuses almost entirely on the critically endangered species that are flying under the radar.
