The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) is the only museum solely dedicated to recognizing the achievements of women artists. The primary goal of the museum is to raise awareness about the significant contributions women artists have made throughout history and to address the gender imbalance that still exists in the presentation of art. Located in Washington, DC, the Museum features more than 4,500 works by over 1,000 women artists, including paintings, sculptures, prints and photography dating from the 16th century to the present. In 2015 NMWA welcomed a record 131,201 visitors with Picturing Mary: Woman, Mother, Idea being its biggest draw.
The museum organizes and hosts a number of special exhibitions and programs throughout the year, including their new program, Women, Arts, and Social Change - comprised of a series of FRESH TALK events. Members receive a subscription to NMWA's award-winning tri- annual magazine, Women in the Arts, as well as free admission and discounts on programs, in the gift shop and the café. The museum has a large online audience, with 350,000 hits for their Broad Strokes blog and more than 40,000 subscribers to their monthly enews.
