Paws of Honor (PAWS) provides veterinary care to retired military and law enforcement K-9's in the Washington DC, Metropolitan area free of charge. These K-9's have served our country on local and global scales and deserve the highest veterinary care for their committed work. The K-9's have sacrificed their lives to help serve our country and deserve the necessary treatments without handler monetary responsibility.
With the demanding nature of their jobs, these K9s require additional care especially suffering from problems such as arthritis, separation anxiety, and pain management and benefits ceasing after reaching age 10.The senior years of a dog’s life are the most critical and expensive. Approximately 40% of the lifetime veterinary expense for dogs occurs in the last two years of their lives, meaning the handler could expect $5,000 or more in veterinary bills in the final few years.
