The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), publisher of Nutrition Action Healthletter, is a non-profit consumer advocacy organization whose twin missions are to conduct innovative research and advocacy programs in health and nutrition, and to provide consumers with current, useful information about their health and well-being. CSPI does not accept donations from corporations or government so that they can be free of conflicts of interest and serve as an aggressive advocate on behalf of consumers across North America.
CSPI's nutrition and food-safety advocacy work and the enormous popularity of its Nutrition Action Healthletter have fundamentally changed the American food environment. Its efforts have created a generation of health-conscious consumers. CSPI's accomplishments include nutrition labeling on foods, increased food-safety inspections, removing junk food from schools, banning trans fats, defining the term "organic" for foods, putting warning notices on alcoholic beverages, and promoting restaurant menu labeling.
Nutrition Action Advocacy Donors are active consumers who want to be healthier and they understand the importance of the link between diet and health. They support the fight for government policies and corporate practices that promote healthy diets, prevent deceptive marketing practices, and ensure that science is used to promote the public welfare.
