Executive Directory of Museums and Art Galleries allows you to target individuals that run and operate museums and art galleries around the country. Museums and Art Galleries are as permanent and stable a part of the cultural landscape as schools and libraries, it was not until the late nineteenth century that they attained social respectability and civic solidity. Museums had existed since the founding of the country, they were often small collections of odd paraphernalia, housed in someone's home or carted around by circus masters.

Museums and Galleries are supported by billions of dollars of annual support from government sponsorship, corporate donations, and public membership, and they employ and educate a wide range of professionals. Museums are categorized as follows: history museums, historic sites, art museums, general museums, specialized museums, natural history/anthropology museums, science museums and children's museums. Art Museums include visual art such as paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, furniture, textiles, costumes, drawings, pastels, watercolors, collages, prints, and photographs.

Although officially classified as privately or publicly funded, in reality most museums rely on a patchwork of funding sources, including government and corporate grants, private donations, interest from endowments, and earned income, such as admission fees, memberships, and revenues from food service and gift shops.

In addition to serving as conservators of the nation's cultural and scientific heritage, American museums and galleries have a strong commitment to education. Most provide educational programs for both children and adults, including guided tours, study groups, special lectures, and demonstrations. In recent decades, many have greatly expanded their restaurants, gift shops, and parking facilities. Museums have grown their online presence in the new millennium. Parts of museum collections are viewed via the Internet, whereas online gift shops provide users access to shop collections.

Museum and Art Gallery curators, conservators and museum technicians require a master’s degree in an appropriate discipline of a museum’s specialty; art, history, or archaeology, or in museum studies. Some personnel have a doctoral degree, particularly for curators in natural history and science museums. Curators, particularly those in small museums, may have administrative and managerial responsibilities, courses in business administration, public relations, marketing, and fundraising. For some positions, an internship of full-time museum work supplemented by courses in museum practices is needed. Museums and Art Galleries hire security guards to keep watch on priceless pieces of art.

Museum and art galleries purchase archival boxes, audio guide players, audio sound systems, bench’s, blinds, brooms, buckets, chairs, cleaning supplies, curtains, desks, display cases, dust mops, environmental monitoring and control equipment, file cabinets, fire detectors, fire extinguishers, gift shop novelty items, high density storage systems, lighting fixtures, map cabinets, mops, painting racks, security cameras, security locks, security systems, shelving, specialty racks, specimen cabinets, vacuum cleaners.
