Compassion for Today. A Cure for Tomorrow...
NGR has awarded more than $26.7 million to support promising research in fields ranging from molecular biology to epidemiology.
Glaucoma is actually a group of eye diseases that lead to damage of the optic nerve, which can then lead to vision loss and possibly blindness. Worldwide, an estimated 66.8 million people are visually impaired due to glaucoma, and an estimated 6.7 million are blind.
Over two million Americans have glaucoma and another two million may have the disease and not know it.
Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness among African Americans and Hispanics in the U.S. Three times as many African Americans have glaucoma than Caucasians, and four times as many are blind. Between the ages of 45 and 64, glaucoma is fifteen times more likely to cause blindness in African Americans than in Caucasians.
NGR donors support the research aimed at finding a cure for this age-related disease, with contributors on average age 60 -65 with an average household income of $57k+. NGR maintains an average gift of $23 and are 100% direct mail sourced.
Donors are dedicated to the research and cure of glaucoma and other sight related diseases, however, they have also expressed their compassion for many other Health/Disease, Social/Humanitarian, Animal Welfare, Environmental and Cultural causes. |
