Compassion for Today – A Cure for Tomorrow…
Macular Degeneration Research has invested more than $56 million in promising research across fields ranging from molecular biology to epidemiology.
Macular degeneration is a disease that causes deterioration of the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. Individuals with macular degeneration often find daily activities such as driving and reading increasingly difficult. The condition primarily affects people over the age of 50, and both genetic and environmental factors contribute to its development.
Macular degeneration is a major cause of visual impairment in the U.S. It is estimated that as many as 11 million people in the United States have some form of age-related macular degeneration. By 2050, this figure will double to nearly 22 million.
Donors to MDR support critical scientific efforts to better understand, prevent, and treat this age-related disease, which is the #1 cause of blindness in the elderly. Grants fund innovative research conducted by scientists and clinicians at leading institutions across the country.
Contributors are on average age 60 - 65 with an average household income of $50k+. MDR maintains an average gift of $30 and are 100% direct mail sourced.
MDR donors are dedicated to the research and cure of macular degeneration, but have also expressed their compassion for many other Health/Disease, Social/Humanitarian, Animal Welfare, Environmental and Veteran causes. .
