The mortgage industry depends on homeowners and buyers, who almost never buy on impulse. In this respect the mortgage loan industry differs greatly from other industries which can create new products and new markets. Instead of creating new markets mortgage bankers must respond to existing marketplace and anticipate marketplace changes.

 

The responsibilities of a mortgage banker include conducting business in compliance with all state and federal regulations, attracting new customers through realty meetings and home buyer seminars, assisting customers in determining the best mortgage for their needs and negotiating terms and conditions between the bank and the customer. Mortgage bankers are also required to check credit reports and financial information for the customer’s loan application. Many mortgage bankers work off of salary plus commission so it is in their best interest to make their clients happy.

 

Mortgage bankers have a background in finance and experience working for a bank. A minimum educational background with an associates degree is required.  Bankers have some higher educational backgrounds.  The employees are outgoing, personable, determined, competitive, and are very motivated to make their recruit more mortgage clients. Communication and presentation skills are a requirement.
