This classification covers establishments primarily engaged in providing limited nursing and health-related or personal care to individuals who do not need the degree of care and treatment that a skilled or intermediate care facility provides. Facilities in this category are used mainly by the elderly and to a much lesser extent by psychiatric patients and the mentally retarded. These individuals may be healthy or require only a minimum of nursing care such as the administration of medicine or supervision of self-administered medications prescribed by a physician. Assisted living, congregate care, domiciliary care, and other arrangements also are in this classification.
