Some of the most dangerous people in America are the liberal Democrats: they're against crime in theory, but don't want to actually punish criminals so as not to damage their self-esteem.
(But then, to be a liberal Democrat in the first place, you have to deny, deny, deny that sometimes Barack Obama talks just to hear his head rattle.)

"Support Your Local Police" and "Speak softly but carry a big stick" are the watchwords for these good Americans.
While it would no doubt be nice to live in an America without crime, such is not the case. And it would be swell to live in a world without evil dictators who oppress their own people and threaten the rest of us with the same darkness, but such isn't the case either.
Until such time, the good people in this world surely have the right to defend themselves, their homes and families, and their country. Lo, even at the risk of seeming judgemental, as in, able to distinguish right from wrong and good from evil.
Sadly, some Americans seem to believe Moses received the Ten Gentle Suggestions, that therapy and counseling can substitute for locks-and-bars punishment, that poverty and deprivation are the causes of crime. But most poor people aren't criminals and indeed, are most often their victims. And in any case, no one's pain gives them the right to hurt the innocent.
And some people seem to believe aggressive dictators don't have to be stopped and destroyed until their bombs are on the way to US. Might as well believe in rainbow-powered unicorns.
America needs a strong national defense in a world yet fraught with danger, and Americans need the right to defend themselves from violent criminals. Peace-through-strength works, at least better than defenselessness or surrender.
