Respiratory therapists assist patients of all ages who suffer from breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. Respiratory therapists provide temporary relief to patients with chronic asthma or emphysema, as well as emergency care to patients who are victims of a heart attack, stroke, drowning, or shock. The majority of respiratory therapists are located in hospital settings, however many therapists are working in home care or nursing facilities.
