The American Lung Association is the oldest voluntary health organization in the US, founded in 1904 to fight tuberculosis. Today, ALA fights lung disease in all its forms, with special emphasis on asthma, tobacco control and environmental health.
ALA funds a broad program of grants and awards designed to further research in lung function and diseases. It's advocacy programs play a major role in the passage of clean air legislation.
