international finance, they replicate in their
personal finances the things that business
entities do in order to profit from movements
in the foreign exchange rates. They maintain
accounts in foreign currencies in addition to
accounts in local currency. They constantly
move funds from one currency to another with
the intention of making gains based on their
speculation as to how exchange rates will move
in the short term.
The names of these people come from reply
forms received by financial brokers who
regularly mail questionnaires to prospective
subscribers to their financial newsletter on
personal investing. One of the questions
asked in the survey is about the currencies in
which they maintain their bank deposits, as
well as the nature of transactions they
undertake with these accounts.
