Farm Sanctuary's goals are to prevent cruelty to victims of food animal production by investigating and prosecuting farm animal abusers, and to directly rescue and provide permanent shelter care for farm animals abused, abandoned or neglected at stockyards, factory farms and slaughterhouses throughout the United States. They work with legislators, animal agencies, the media, and through education and activist campaigns. They promote vegetarianism/veganism and an end to factory farming. Farm Sanctuary operates two large shelters, with over 1,000 rescued and rehabilitated animals in New York and California.
