Founded in 1970, the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) is the only professional organization devoted exclusively to the advancement of critical care medicine. SCCM members are primarily high-level physicians and surgeons (medical directors, chief physicians, professors, etc.) working within the intensive care and critical care units of the most prestigious hospitals and medical centers in the U.S. (11,163) and abroad (1,688). Other allied professionals working with the seriously ill include registered nurses, pharmacists/pharmacologists, and scientists.
From heart attack and stroke, to severe respiratory problems, overwhelming infection, burns and gunshot wounds, SCCM members strive to secure the highest quality care for all patients facing life-threatening conditions. SCCM members specialize in a variety of disciplines and are considered the elite of their profession.
